We began with a rather audacious proposition: that Mind is causative, that Spirit is present now, that supply is not withheld, and that a change in consciousness may be followed by a change in circumstance with astonishing speed. We expected demonstrations. We spoke of healing, prosperity, opportunity, and what the newspapers were quite willing to call miracles. And then, as many are inclined to do, we began adding rules.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNow I am told that before a man may have his good, he must raise his vibration, remove his resistance, heal his childhood, discover his limiting beliefs, cease being attached to the result, maintain a favorable emotional state, phrase his desire properly, visualize it correctly, and then—this is my favorite part—stop wanting it altogether. I do not say that these ideas have no usefulness. I say only that an extraordinary number of conditions have been made from a teaching whose great promise was the removal of conditions.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo I propose a return to \u003cstrong\u003efirst principles\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFor seven days, I shall invite you to put aside what you have been told about \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003ehow\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e manifestation must work and examine instead the thing upon which all of these later teachings were built: consciousness itself. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis is no invitation for you to become better manifestors. You do not earn your miracles through superior spiritual behavior. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis is an invitation for you to see what happens when you cease informing Infinite Intelligence of all the reasons it cannot possibly give you what you desire until you have completed our homework.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI have lived long enough—which is a very long time, indeed—to have developed a certain impatience with unnecessary rules. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLet us find out what remains when we break a few of them.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDay One — Must you raise your vibration?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI confess I do not remember Spirit carrying a gauge of any sort.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe shall examine the modern notion that you must achieve a sufficiently elevated emotional condition before your good may reach you. Must you truly become joyful before money can arrive, peaceful before circumstances can change, or confident before opportunity can appear? Or have we confused a pleasant state of mind with the actual creative principle?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eToday we return to the simpler proposition: you are not attempting to persuade Spirit to respond to you. Spirit is already present.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDay Two — Must resistance be removed?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eResistance has acquired a fearsome reputation. One might suppose that a contrary thought is capable of bringing the machinery of the Infinite to a complete halt.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLet us consider...\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou may desire prosperity and fear it. You may expect success at ten o'clock and doubt it by half past. If perfect internal agreement were required before a demonstration could occur, very little would ever happen.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eToday we ask whether resistance must truly disappear—or whether your desire may be larger than your contradiction.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDay Three — Must you believe?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHere we look at the modern demand that you inspect yourself continually to make certain you are believing hard enough.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI advise against this.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSome of the finest demonstrations I have witnessed began not with certainty but with a willingness to entertain an outrageous possibility. A crack in the wall will admit light quite as readily as an open door.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eToday we shall dispense with the requirement of perfect faith and make room for something much easier: \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePerhaps.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDay Four — Must you do it correctly?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThere are affirmations to be spoken in the present tense, visualizations to be performed with sufficient detail, scripts to be written, feelings to be generated, words to be avoided, and methods for asking the Universe that resemble instructions for operating a particularly temperamental steam engine.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSurely the Infinite is not so easily confused.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eToday we abandon the fear that an imperfect technique produces an imperfect result. Your words are not magic spells. They are instruments for directing consciousness. If consciousness has moved—and you shall know by your feeling—we can say with some certainty the precise arrangement of the words is of considerably less importance.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDay Five — Must you let go of wanting it?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHere is a peculiar doctrine: first you must desire the thing strongly enough to manifest it, and then you must cease desiring it so that you do not prevent its manifestation.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe, within this Communion of Light, have often made this suggestion. But it is just that: a suggestion. It is no rule or law.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWanting is not a spiritual offense. Attachment can become uncomfortable, certainly, but discomfort and creative incapacity are not the same thing. You needn't pretend not to care about something you care about very much.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eToday we allow desire to be honest, uncomplicated, and alive.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDay Six — Must you heal yourself before you can have your good?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis rule has produced an astonishing amount of delay.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThere is always another wound to examine, another belief to uncover, another ancestor to forgive, another pattern to clear. One may spend twenty years preparing oneself to receive twenty dollars.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHealing is a beautiful thing. But I refuse to make it the admission price for prosperity.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eToday we consider the possibility that you may be frightened, unfinished, contradictory, thoroughly human—and nevertheless available for an immediate demonstration of good.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDay Seven — Must manifestation have a method?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAnd now, having spent six days breaking rules, we shall break the most seductive one of all: the rule that there must be a system.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA method may focus the mind. A practice may remind you of what is true. An affirmation may turn your attention from lack to supply. Use any of them gladly.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBut do not mistake the instrument for the principle.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe principle was here before the technique. Spirit was immediate before anyone invented a manifestation journal. Consciousness was creative before anybody taught a seminar about it.
